Student work is not a product.

We never sell student data. We never show ads. Students don’t need an email account to use TeachRoster — they join a class with a code their teacher shares.

From teachers: name, email, the classes you create, and the material you upload to generate homework.

From students: the name their teacher enters on the roster, their answers and submissions, attendance marks, and scores. Email is optional.

Automatically: basic technical logs needed to keep the service running and secure.

Sell or rent personal data. Show advertising. Build advertising profiles of children. Share a student’s work with other students. Use student submissions to train public AI models.

When a teacher generates a quiz or requests AI grading, the relevant content is sent to our AI provider to produce that draft. Teachers review every AI draft and every suggested grade before students see anything.

Students never talk to an AI in TeachRoster. AI drafts material and suggests grades for teachers only, and a student sees only what their teacher has approved.

A teacher sees their own classes and the work of students in them. A student sees only their own work and feedback. School-wide and parent access do not exist yet; when they do, they will appear here first.

Teachers can delete a class or a student record, which removes the associated work. Ask us to delete an account and we will do it within 30 days.

TeachRoster is free for teachers and young. Teacher accounts, classes, rosters, attendance and marks are live: if you sign in and add a class, that is real data stored on our own server, and the sections above describe how it is handled.

The signed-out teacher and student pages are a demo running on sample classes and sample students. Nothing you type into the demo is saved anywhere.

When anything here changes, this page is updated first and the date at the top changes.

Where your data is stored. Accounts and student work will be stored on servers in the United States, operated for us by a German company. We will say so plainly here if that ever changes.

European Union and UK.When a school uses TeachRoster, the school is the data controller and TeachRoster is a processor acting on its instructions. Because our servers are in the United States, that is an international transfer: before any European school-wide rollout we will put the appropriate safeguards in place — standard contractual clauses and a data processing agreement — or move that school’s data to servers in the EU. A request to access, correct or delete a student’s data is handled within 30 days.

United States.We collect only what a teacher enters — a name on a roster — and the work a student submits. No email is required from students and there is no advertising. Where a student is under 13, we rely on the school or teacher to obtain any consent required under COPPA. Student records stay under the school’s control; we act as a service provider under FERPA.

Everywhere else. The same rules apply: nothing is sold, nothing is used for advertising, and student work is never used to train public AI models.
